Brooklyn Food Conference + CSA

Hello all!

After returning from the Brooklyn Food Conference today I feel revved up about all the great food and agriculture advocacy that is going on in the city and all around the state. It was refreshing to get out of finals mode and get thinking about some ways we can all engage with these issues in our communities on a day-to-day basis… hopefully others will share their experiences from today.

I want to remind you all that CUFSP’s Morningside Heights CSA is still accepting members for the fall 2009 season. The CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a fantastic way to support local growers by buying fresh, organic produce directly from a farmer. We are partnered with Norwich Meadows Farm (visit- www.norwichmeadowsfarm.com for more info). The CSA will deliver to JJ’s Place (in the basement of John Jay dorm on Columbia’s campus) on Wednesdays starting September 9th and last for ten weeks (pick-up time TBD). For weekly vegetable shares members are required to pay $140 for an individual share (enough for 1 – 2 people) and $280 for a family share (enough for roughly 4 + people). There are a variety of other extras available like milk, money, and yogurt. There is space for around 30 + more members, so if you are interested please contact morningsideheightscsa@gmail.com to receive a sign-up sheet and more info. The membership is first come, first serve. The deadline for sign-ups and deposits is on June 30th but the sooner the better so we can get the start-up money to the farmer ASAP. In fact, today I had the chance to chat with our farmer Zaid Kurdieh at the conference and he is ready to plan farm visits and workdays in the fall for members!

Help support local farmers! Please help by spreading the word!

Your CSA Coordinators,

Jessica Epsten and Gus Hagen-Dillon
